NFL Week Two

Ground Zero for Pats and Jets

We all love talking college hockey, but it's physically impossible to avoid talking about the big game this week.

Can you imagine a more over-hyped week two game than Patriots Jets?  The AFC East rivals will finally stop talking and start playing tomorrow afternoon in the swamps of New Jersey.

So before the game tomorrow, let's get you up to date on what the big name personalities are saying about the game.

Rex Ryan, Jets Head Coach

Ryan doesn't want to kiss anything related to Bill Belichick, but then again who does?  Sexy Rexy has changed the culture around Gang Green, and his comments toward the Pats have done a great deal to help with that.  Whether or not it's smart to call out one of the greatest coaches of the greatest franchises in the history of the NFL, simply changing the pace from the lifeless blob of a team that Eric Mangini ran  makes a huge difference.  Even after he backed down a bit and admitted that the Pats have a better coach and QB than the Jets, he still did it with a tough guy attitude.  But at the end of the day, Ryan has built this game up so much that it could end up being a make or break game.

Kerry Rhodes, Jets Safety

Rhodes followed his Head Coaches' lead in the week leading up to this match-up.  As he said to the presses,

"You go out from the first quarter on, from the first play on, and try to embarrass them. Not just go out there and try to win, try to embarrass them. Try to make them feel bad when they leave here. We don't want to just beat them. We want to send a message to them, 'We're not backing down from you and we expect to win this game, and it's not going to be luck, it's not going to be a mistake."
Probably not a good idea from Rhodes on this one.  Tom Brady, rehabilitating or not,  is going to make it his mission to target Rhodes for some personal payback.  Remember what Brady did to Anthony Smith? Let's review shall we?

Rodney Harrison, Former Pats Safety

Harrison works for the media now, so it makes sense for him to start talking trash to current NFL players right?  Well he seems to think that makes sense.   Harrison is in a twittering battle with Rhodes about this Sunday's game.  Among other things, he told ESPN Radio that:

“I respect Kerry Rhodes as a playmaker, but he’s not a tough guy.  I’ve seen him turn down tackles many a time…. Guys are not happy with Kerry Rhodes talking and Rex Ryan talking. It’s just blatant disrespect. You don’t talk like that. Some nerve of this guy to come out and really say that. He’s going to have to back it up.”
Well Rodney should be making big plays from behind the anchor desk all day.  I'd bet the Pats are pissed that someone somewhat associated with their team got involved in this.  For the most part, Patriots players have followed the Belichick mantra and said absolutely nothing.  But now Rodney goes out and blows it.

Kris Jenkins, Jets Defensive Lineman

According to Jenkins, this game is the Jets' "Super Bowl."  Now, Jenkins has played in a Super Bowl (against the Patriots) and he lost.  I don't know what possessed him to say this, but this is a dumber thing to say than Rhodes' comments.  Take it easy there Big Fella'.

Tom Brady, Patriots QB

Brady is calm, cool and collected as always going into this game.  He did however, respond to Jenkins following the Super Bowl comments.

“Talk is cheap.  They can treat it however they want to treat it. We’re going to treat it like we treat every game. It’s not the Super Bowl. That doesn’t get played until February.”
Ladies and Gents, THAT is how you talk trash.  Downplay the situation while backhand slapping your opponent.  He didn't have to say much of anything, but he still insulted Jenkins in the process.  Kudos, Golden Boy.

Back with the predictions later.
