Van Der Gulik Assigned to AHL

Former BU Captain Will Start Season in Minors

Well it's not all cherries and candy canes for BU alum on the dawn of the 2009-10 NHL season.  Playmaker extraordinaire David Van Der Gulik missed the cut with the Calgary Flames, and will start this year in the AHL.

But it certainly could be worse for Van Der Gulik, who had a shot of espresso in the bigs last year with Calgary, playing in a grand total of 6 games.  The Flames AHL affiliate is in his hometown of Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Cam Tucker of The Abbotsford Mission Times put together a nice piece on the bittersweet homecoming for Van Der Guilk.

David has spent almost 3 full seasons in the AHL, and appears to be on the brink of breaking through more regularly.  In his time in the minors he has compiled an impressive stat line, scoring 52 goals and assisting on 69 more in 233 games.
