Alumni Update: Brandon Yip

Avs Player Pumped For BU BC
Ever wonder if the alums care about what happens to their old teams? Well, Brandon Yip certainly does.

The Denver Post did a nice feature on Yip leading up to the Fenway Game, and talked to the winger about how his former teammates Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen will also be his future mates in Colorado.

On the outdoor contest, Yip told Mike Chambers of the Post, "When I was there, they talked about doing that game a lot. They kept saying it would happen next year, next year, next year, and then all of a sudden I'm a senior. But I'm excited for the guys. It's going to be an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Well, Yip won't be at the game, but it's cool to hear that he's excited about the game.

Yip has been successful early on in his stint with the Avs, and he put up his first multi-goal game in the team's 4-2 loss to Detroit on New Year's Eve.

His first:

And His Second:

These goals are classic Yip, both on the power play, and both because of hard work and good positioning.  These are two examples of why Yip is going to become a fan favorite in the NHL very quickly.

He's a tough guy, he hits hard, he has a knack to score goals, and let's be honest Asian hockey players are pretty rare at the pro level.  Yip will make a name for himself and let his play elevate him to the next level in the NHL.

Who would have thought that after missing the first four months of the season Yip would so quickly jump into the fray at the pro level and succeed.

And it's a good thing to see, because Yip is a really nice guy.  We just have to hope he stays healthy.
