Wish you could see Matty Gilroy play in the Frozen Fenway game on Friday night? What about Chris Drury?
Better yet, do you wish they would just come back and play at BU already?
Well, one of those things is sort of going to happen.
The Rangers, who will be in town to play the Bruins on Saturday afternoon, will be flying in to Boston early, immediately after their game in Atlanta wraps up Thursday night. On Friday, the Rangers will get ready for the game by practicing at BU.
Now we know Gilroy and former BC Eagle Brian Boyle are familiar with the ice at Agganis, but you have to wonder if this will be the first time Drury will lace 'em up on the new pond. Even more interesting, but less likely, you have to wonder what the possibility is of the Blueshirts skating at Walter Brown.
Nonetheless, Drury will not be among the players at the game. As the Post story says, "Citing the 1 p.m. Saturday start and his own individual preparation routine, Drury said he didn't think he'd make it to the outdoor college game, but that he thought a few Rangers would head to the old ballpark. Gilroy will be one of them.
Gilroy talked to the New York Post about the big weekend, saying "I'm ticked that we didn't get to play at Fenway Park like this year's team is. But at least I'll be there to see it...It should be great. I just wish we could have played at Fenway when I was there."
So, if you're at the game look for Matty Ice, and say thanks again for last year. Buy him a beer, or a hot chocolate, whatever he's allowed to drink the night before a game.
