Like Clockwork

New Arena No Stranger To Playoffs

The road to a quarterfinal series at Agganis was a bit more dicey for the Terriers this season, but they made it happen nonetheless in 2010 thanks to a final weekend in which they absolutely tore the heart directly out of the chest of the Northeastern Hockey program.

BU Brass: "I Knew There Was a Reason We Built This Place."

Since Agganis opened in January of 2005, it has always been home to Hockey East quarterfinals action.  If you're counting, that's six straight seasons hosting a first-round playoff series in the friendly confines of Jack Parker Rink.

How have they fared over the course of this streak you ask? Very, very well.

2005 vs Providence: 2-1 Series Win (L 4-1, W 2-0, W 2-0)

2006 vs UMass Amherst: 2-0 Series Win (W 4-1, W 4-1)

2007 vs Vermont: 2-1 Series Win (L 3-2, W 2-0, W 3-2 OT)

2008 vs UMass Lowell: 2-1 Series Win (W 5-3, L 4-1, W 4-2)

2009 vs Maine: 2-1 Series Win (W 2-1, L 6-3, W 6-2)

That's five years of playoff hockey at Agganis, and five series victories.  Not a bad track record at all.

In case you're wondering, another streak will be on the line when Mack visits Agganis this weekend.  BU has advanced at least as fas as the Hockey East semi-finals in every season since 2002.  The last time they were bounced from the quarters was in 2001 when Providence bumped the 14-20-3 Terriers from the 3rd and deciding game of the set in a double overtime thriller.

Along the way, they've defeated Providence, BC, Amherst, Lowell, Vermont and Maine in the quarters.

Can we add Merrimack to the list of vanquished foes?
