Scott Darling Statement on Suspension

Former Team Savior Speaks on His Absence

Scott Darling, suspended for violating team rules by Maine at the most important point of the season, has released a statement to Maine TV Station WABI-TV.

"I'll be away from the team for a while as I deal with personal issues. I understand the reasons for my suspension and accept responsibility for my actions.  I apologize to my teammates, coaches and our fans and I will work hard to return to the program when Coach Whitehead decides it is appropriate. I am thankful for the support I have received, and I am determined to learn from this situation and return ready to contribute in a significant way."
Wow.  Looks like this is the end of the road for Darling in 2010, who really has gone a long way toward carrying the Black Bears into the postseason.

Not Maine's Darling Anymore

Darling's last game action came at the front end of a weekend series against Mack on February 26.  In that game, Darling allowed 6 goals while making 24 saves before being pulled in favor of Dave Wilson late in the game.

His backups, Dave Wilson and Shawn Sirman, have combined for a less than stellar 1-9-0 record this season.  Neither has inspired a ton of confidence between the pipes, as Wilson has saved 87% of shots faced while Sirman has turned away an ugly 83% of opponent shots.

You can't like Maine's chances this weekend against Lowell without Darling in net.

It takes an entire team to win or lose a game. Yes, the goalie is a very important member on the team, however, Scott has had rather stellar defence infront of the net which has saved many goals from entering the net on many occassions. If you fully look at Wilson's stats, especially after Christmas break you will see that he has actually had a rather impressive performace. Allowing two shots in on one night is not a bad game. If UMaine comes out to play how they are able to as a TEAM then they should be able to do fine against Lowell! It will be an exciting game and it would have been if Darling was in net too! It's unfortunate that Darling will not be joining the players because he has played an important roll on the team, but it is important for him to be healthy. Good Luck to all the teams!
