The All Important Beanpot Sandwich

How Will the Terriers Handle the Game Between the Games?

I was originally going to make this part of the upcoming "Know Your Enemy" post, but once I wrote it out I decided it needed it's own billing.

Mmmmmmmm.....Sandwich

The main thing I think about on the Friday between Beanpot first round and Beanpot Championship (or in the case of 2008 the consolation) is the fact that the team has to stay focused on the one game at a time mentality. And for some reason I had the idea that this had been a problem in the past for the Terriers.
But when I went back and looked at the results, I was surprised to see that I was dead wrong. In reality, Jack Parker has done an incredible job keeping his team reigned in for the game between Beanpot games. Here are the results over the past decade of Beanpot sandwich games.

09 -- 5-3 Win at home vs. Lowell
08 -- (off a loss) 6-2 Win at Lowell
07 -- 3-2 Win at Amherst
06 -- 3-0 Win at home vs Amherst (10th of 11 straight wins)
05 -- 4-2 Win at Providence
04 -- 2-0 Loss at home vs Providence
03 -- 2-0 Win at Amherst
02 -- 4-2 Win at home vs Amherst
01 -- 3-2 Loss at Lowell (followed up by Beanpot final loss to BC)
00 -- 5-3 Win at home vs Lowell

Keeping score at home? That's an 8-2 mark (34 goals scored, 18 goals allowed) in the conference games played between the first and second round of the Beanpot. They haven't lost this game since 2004 at Walter Brown Arena against Providence College.

Taking it a step further, the Terriers are an incredible 41-10-2 all-time in the Beanpot sandwich game, and they are 21-2-1 in the game since 1983.  As successful as their Beanpot play has been, BU has been even better in the games between Beanpot Mondays.

But for some reason, I'm still concerned that this particular BU team will come out flat tonight. They seem to get overly content with themselves after they get a big win or two under their belts. After beating BC at Fenway Park they didn't show up at Providence. After beating BC again at Conte Forum they didn't show up at home against UNH. They just beat a "rival" to advance to the Beanpot final. Will they be satisfied with themselves, or will they finally show that sense of urgency that they desperately need at this time of year?
