The first thing I thought of when I left the game last night was that Kevin Shattenkirk's brain must have been removed during the first intermission. I mean, I have never seen him make such glaring mental errors leading to significant goals as he did last night.
To be fair, the National Championship game wasn't exactly a banner night for Shatty either, but at the end of that game he redeemed himself by proving he has eyes in the back of his head and dropping a perfect pass to Colby for the win.
Yet despite his errors, he did score a nice goal. As did defenseman David Warsofsky. And for good measure, D-Man Colby Cohen added one of his own with Millan pulled.
But before i had the chance to write this nifty little blog entry about the ups and downs of the defense, I looked at USCHO for their gamer and box score. I can do this, because I don't get paid and they do. And low and behold, what do I see? That exact same article, written by Scott Weighart. Needless to say, he did a great job.
So what does Scott think?
"In judging the evidence tonight, the verdict had to be a narrow decision against the defense. As was the case often during the abysmal fall semester, there were a few really bad reads, and a little bad luck, by the defensemen that proved costly against the potent Boston College offense. That ultimately overshadowed the fact that the BU defensemen also scored all three goals for the defending national champions."
So basically, I'm not going to re-write this article, but you should read Weighart's, because it pretty much sums up how and why the Terriers lost last night.
