Turnaround Time for Kieran Millan

Goalie Getting Back to his Old Form

We'll have a longer column on the successes of Colby Cohen coming up later today, but first I want to take a quick look at some of the numbers for last year's golden boy, netminder Kieran Millan.

The new year has been pretty nice to Millan as well, who must have made a resolution to stop sucking at hockey.
Kieran Millan Has Been a Man of Steel in 2010

Here is Kieran's game log since we rang in 2010.

That's a grand total of 21 Goals Allowed and 219 Saves made on the way to a 6-2 record.

This means that in 2010 Kieran is working at a pace of 2.63 GAA with a .913 save percentage.

Even without a comparison, those numbers are pretty good.  But let's look at them next to Millan's numbers from the fall.  From October to December, Kieran played in 12 games to a 3-9 record.  He allowed 41 goals on 257 shots.  In the fall he played to the tune of an ugly 3.42 GAA with a .862 save percentage.  Most importantly, he simply wasn't inspiring the necessary confidence in his teammates to get wins.

                      GAA       SAVE %      W-L
FALL             3.42           .862             3-9
WINTER        2.63           .913            6-2

These numbers are given with the understanding that the team has also played better in front of Kieran Millan, but nonetheless, anybody watching these games knows that he has raised his level of play dramatically in recent weeks.  This turnaround is nearly as impressive, and perhaps even more important, than that of wunderkind Colby Cohen.
