Well That Could Have Gone Better

Hockey East Counterparts Un-Cooperative to Terriers' Revival

On Friday, we outlined all of the things that could go right in Hockey East this weekend to help the Terriers move up the standings.

Barely any of those things happened.

Top seeded New Hampshire was swept in Orno in Maine.  They were edged 3-2 on Friday, and undressed  6-3 on Saturday.  Yeah, that just happened.  That means that Maine is currently sitting in a tie for second place with BC.  It also means that UNH's sure thing of running away with Hockey East just became a little bit less of a certainty.

Providence may have given us more than we expected this weekend, taking 1 of 4 potential points from UVM.  The #17 team in the nation made the Friars look silly on Friday night, defeating Providence 5-1.  However, PC was able to bounce back a bit for Saturday's contest, earning a 1-1 tie on home ice.

One bright spot this weekend was Saturday's Merrimack-Lowell matchup.  Mack made the most of home-ice advantage, defeating the Riverhawks 3-1 on the strength of two quick late goals.  That's three losses in a row for UML.

Finally, BC romped UMass Amherst by a count of 7-1.  Not the way you want the Eagles coming into the Beanpot Final.

With that, let's take a look at the standings.

UNH suddenly doesn't seem so safe up at the top after their rough weekend, having played an extra game and leading by just 3 points.

Meanwhile, Your Terriers are four points out of a home playoff spot with eight games to play.  They are just six points out of the two seed.  Certainly do-able, but they're going to need to win some tough games.
