Look at All These Damn Points

Who You Should Be Rooting For This Weekend in Hockey East

There is a full slate of Hockey East games tonight, and three more tomorrow night.  And yes, they all matter.  I'm not advocating scoreboard watching for the players, but luckily I don't play.

UNH and Maine will meet for a two game set in Maine this weekend, and if you're like me you are hoping home ice advantage doesn't help the Black Bears.  There's basically zero chance BU can catch UNH for the top spot in the conference, but there is a very real possibility that the Terriers could surpass Maine, with a little bit of help.  Keeping the Black Bears out of the win column this weekend would set the Terriers up to get even with them or even pass them in the standings next weekend at Agganis.

Vermont will go to Providence for two straight nights this weekend as well.  The Friars are absolutely dreadful.  They're just a miserable team.  It's a shame that the Terriers let one slip to them, because quite frankly, they suck.  They have won two games since November 24th.  If you're a betting man, you don't pick Providence, but unfortunately, that's exactly what BU needs to hope for.  UVM is jsut 1 point behind the Terriers in the standings.

BC and UMass Amherst will get together on NESN tonight at 7:30.  Never root for BC.  Ever.  I don't care if someone offers you money to do it.  I don't care if a playoff spot depends on it (don't call me on this if that situation comes up).  Never root for the Eagles.  They are pure evil.  In fact, send some extra bad vibes to the BC BBall team on Saturday when they play Duke.

The bottom feeders Northeastern and Merrimack will play in North Andover.  If a tree falls in the forest.....right, nobody cares.

We do care about Mack on Saturday, though, when they play host to Lowell.  However, the Warriors are 0-2 against UML this season, so don't hold your breath.

There you have it.  A grand total of 16 points up for grabs this weekend.  Let's hope they go to the right people.
