Post Game Reactions: Saturday, February 20

BU Beats Providence 2-1

I said yesterday that a loss is a loss.  Well, I suppose that a win is a win, and that's exactly what the Terriers got last night.

BU eked out a paper thin 2-1 victory over the Friars thanks to a good night in goal from Kieran Millan and a solid appearance from Sasquatch.  BU desperately needed a solid bounce back after a tough loss on many levels, and the two points helps to alleviate the sting of Friday's disaster.

Here are the video highlights from the victory as well as the box score.

Now let's get some quick thoughts on the win.

Kieran the Great, Alex the Great

The goaltenders were the stars of the night, with Kieran Millan getting outplayed by stellar PC netminder Alex Beaudry, but somehow coming away with the win.  Millan saved 28 of 29 Providence shots, while Beaudry stopped a whipping 39 of 41 BU offerings.  It was just another hard luck loss for Alex, who has a terrific 2.76 GAA and an even better .918 save percentage on the season, but just a 9-16-2 record.  Thanks for nothing, offense.

See Ya Next Year

Over the weekend, Providence was officially eliminated from playoff contention.  So far, they have won just 5 games all season in Hockey East play, two of them coming against BU.

Sasquatch Scores

The game winning goal came just seconds after Sasquatch made an appearance at Agganis.

Seriously, he was one of the top performers in the game.  Props to him for coming out and putting on a show for a game against such a crappy team.

It All Evens Out

A night after Providence was awarded 12 power plays by the officials resulting in 3 goals, they had just two chances on the man advantage on Saturday.  They failed on both.

No Points for Nicky

Nick Bonino saw his 10 game point scoring streak come to an end on Saturday.  I'm sure he'd rather have the win.

Line Roulette

Zach Cohen, who scored the game winner, was positive about the Terriers' play.

"Last night I played with Nicky and then today I played with Conno, so it’s been a little different the past three games. But I played with Conno a little bit last year and had good chemistry with him then. We didn’t play too well last night, and obviously we lost, but I thought we played real well tonight. All four lines played real well. We had a lot of chances. They were just sticking right in front of the net, but we were able to make some plays and it was good to pull out a win."   --BOSTON HOCKEY BLOG
I'm glad he thinks so.  Although BU had a bundle of shots, the level of intensity and the quality of passes didn't indicate a high level of comfort between all the new linemates.  Nothing a week of practice can't fix.
