He Who Scores First.....

...Scores Loudest?

There are some interesting numbers for both the Black Bears and Terriers when it comes to notching goals early in games.

Basically, if they don't score first, they don't win.

Maine is 13-2-2 when they get the first goal in a game, but their comeback efforts have been sorely lacking.  When the Black Bears' opponents have got on the board first, Maine has been a dismal 1-7-1.  When trailing at the end of one period, they are 2-4-0, and when trailing after two they are 2-6-1.

The Terriers aren't a whole lot better when they get scored on first.  BU is just 4-9-2 when their opponent finds the back of the net before they do.

The comeback trail has been very bumpy for BU this year as well.  When BU is behind at the end of one period of play, BU is an unbelievable 0-6-2.  However, when leading after 20 minutes, the Terriers are 7-1-0.  So you may as well just go home if BU is losing a third of the way in.

Another intriguing stat for the Terriers is the ratio of shots taken to shots allowed.  BU has lost just once this season when their opponent has put more shots on net than they have.  The Terriers are 5-1-0 when they are outshot.  However, when BU racks up the shots, it gets ugly.  They are 6-10-3 when taking more shots than the other guys.

One more random stat that probably means nothing has to do with BU's killer instinct.  You don't want to take the Terriers to extra time.  BU is 3-0-3 in OT games.  Maine is 0-0-3 in extra time.
